Optical Courier Service (OCS) commenced operations in Melbourne in March 1992, following a lifestyle change for the company owner and Director, the late Mike Materazzo.
Mike had been in the optical industry since the early 1960’s working as an Optical Mechanic, Optical Dispenser, Sales Representative and then Company Manager. Mike started up the operations for Hoya in Melbourne and Adelaide and then managed the southern region (SA, VIC and TAS) for many years.
Mike was growing tired of the corporate scene and started looking for a new challenge, and one that he could call his own. He felt there was a gap in the market and a need for an efficient reliable courier service to service the optical industry. Having extensive contacts in the industry, Mike consulted his esteemed colleagues on his new business idea.
Both the wholesalers and the retailers provided favorable feedback and in March 1992, OCS commenced operations with only a handful of retailers & wholesalers.
Today, Gina Materazzo continues to manage OCS which has around 400 Melbourne and Geelong members, and interacts with over 100 wholesalers Australia wide.
